  • Bio: Sean Hastings

sean_small21.jpgBorn in the late sixties, Sean is old enough to know better but still young enough not to care. He saw the first moon landing on TV, but did not attend Woodstock because he “preferred nursery rhymes and lullabies over rock and roll at that age.” In his first year of grade school, his teacher demanded that he receive IQ testing in hopes that she could have him transfered to the special education program. She was dismayed to find that he was a lot smarter than she was - probably smarter than anyone else at the school. She was again dismayed when his parents wouldn’t transfer him to a gifted program because they wanted him to be properly socialized. (For the record, it didn’t work.)

Sean eventually dropped out of school and ran away from home at the tender age of 21 to go work for the New York Mafia. When he got bored of breaking arms for a living, he left the public sector and moved to the left coast where, just before the dot com boom, he met the love of his life while hanging out at his favorite drug den. After pulling a few lucrative jobs together, they went on the lamb - first hiding out in New Orleans, then leaving the country to live in the Caribbean. They have worked on a variety of projects together including the design of an encrypted electronic currency protocol, building sets for a porno movie, setting up a public data haven, and (most stressfully of all) completely renovating a house while simultaneously living in it. Currently they live in a quaint little country village, 30 minutes by train from the center of Manhattan.

Sean is co-author of the wildly popular self-help book “God Wants You Dead,” written with his good friend Paul Rosenberg. Sean and Paul continue to collaborate on the Vera Verba Project, a print and electronic publishing company with a mission that Sean summarizes simply as: “Make more people think more often.”
