The State Owns Your Children
I am not trying to be dramatic or to scare people. I am simply stating a significant fact. States all around the world are claiming ownership of children - all children within their power.
No, the governments are not rounding-up bus-loads of children to be taken to a special facility, but they are stating, boldly, that they have the right to take your children if they don’t like the way you are raising them - or even if they just don’t like you.
If this troubles you, good - it should! But that leaves you with a choice: To face the facts, or to turn away because it’s not convenient. Friedrich Schiller said that mankind was “made great or little by its own will.” Pick your category.
THREE CASES
#1: Not long ago I posted that Germany equated homeschooling with mental illness, with the result being that they would steal whichever children they wished to steal, because they had a right to see that they were educated the right way. I went on to say that “Germans do not own themselves. The collective owns them, and will enforce their claim with violence.” And, if you read the story, you will find that this is exactly what the German government did.
#2: The government of England (UK) is pursuing a policy of Forced Adoption. In fact, they have quotas and rewards! You may not be aware of the fact, but civil liberties have been trashed horribly since Blair took office. It has been a shocking period, especially since Englishmen were once the tough guys who forced civil rights into existence. There is a Forced Adoption web site (operated from outside of England, I will add) that covers this issue passionately. The UK government will take children from parents they dislike, and they will reward the bureaucrats that do it!
#3: The State of Wisconsin (US) has forcibly removed (stolen, in normal English) three children from their parents, even though they admitted that there were no signs of abuse whatsoever. The reason? Because the parents turned to prayer for healing rather than to doctors. (Sean covered that aspect of this case in his Help Yourself post.)
Yes, this one does get close to the edge, since another sibling died just prior, but ask yourself: Are we the property of the state? And isn’t that the same thing as slavery? In this case, the police and “experts” decided that since the parents didn’t use medicine, they would be charged with a crime, and their children would be stolen from them - and that means big men with guns, carrying them off by force!
You and I may think that rejecting medicine was a bad thing to do, but do we have the right to force our neighbors to submit to the medical treatment we prefer? Would you give your neighbor that right over you? (We’re not talking about convincing people to do something, we’re talking about holding them down and shoving syringes into their veins.) If you allow that, then you are allowing people to be locked in cages because others don’t like their choice of therapies. Bear in mind that the parents never harmed this child and pursued the therapy of their choice diligently. They wanted their child to be healthy and live.
DO YOU OWN YOURSELF?
My friend Butler Shaffer (a law professor) used to begin each of his property classes with this question, and you might want to read his thoughts on the subject. The truth is that you don’t own yourself - or at least the State doesn’t think so. In fact, Germany, the UK and the US - self-proclaimed champions of human rights - are openly acting in defiance of self-ownership. They own your children, and they own you. And, they will use fists and bullets if you don’t like it.
DOES ANYONE ACTUALLY CARE?
Well, some people do - not everyone is a sleeping sheep. And, of course, even sleeping sheep care after it has happened to them. But, times have been good, and no one wanted to rock the boat - so they slept on and let the state do whatever it wanted.
What do you think should be done?

I’m no fan of polygamy, but bureaucrats stealing children from caring parents (even if they are weird) is NOT good.
Can you imagine pulling crying children away from their mothers, then driving home and trying to convince yourself that you’re a good person?
